On September 17th, 2025, LOMARTOV participated in the SCENARIOS workshop “PFAS and European Transition: Insights, Technologies, Strategies and Impacts from SCENARIOS Project” during RemTech Europe 2025 in Ferrara, Italy. The event, held under the framework of the international RemTech Expo, was a resounding success, bringing together a packed audience on-site and more than 140 online attendees, reflecting the urgency of addressing PFAS pollution.

Representing LOMARTOV, Mihaela Mirea and Jan Klenner delivered two impactful presentations in Session 3 – Environmental Performance and Societal Impacts:

  • Societal dimensions of PFAS remediation (Mihaela Mirea)
  • Cost-Benefit Analysis of SCENARIOS PFAS Technologies (Jan Klenner)

Both interventions underscored the importance of considering not only the technical feasibility of PFAS remediation technologies but also their social and economic implications in shaping sustainable management strategies.

Mihaela Mirea reflected on the human dimension of PFAS pollution:

“By asking the audience to set aside their roles as researchers, policymakers, or industry experts, we reframed PFAS pollution from the perspective of laypeople who see it as a worrying but confusing health issue. Our study shows that, in most cases, non-remediation is more costly than implementing seemingly expensive solutions. Moreover, inadequate or delayed communication about these findings amplifies public anxiety and fosters misinformation — further complicating policy and remediation efforts.”

At LOMARTOV, we believe that integrating sustainability assessments with societal perspectives is essential to ensure that solutions to complex environmental issues like PFAS are not only effective but also socially accepted and economically viable.

We are proud to contribute to the SCENARIOS project, working alongside leading European partners to deliver innovative, impactful solutions for the transition towards a safer and more sustainable Europe.
