Understanding societal expectations is essential to ensuring that innovative hydrogen solutions can successfully reach the market. With this objective in mind, the hyPPER Innovation Workshop, “Understanding Stakeholder Needs and Concerns in Adopting Green Hydrogen: The Case of hyPPER Technology”, brought together consortium partners and invited experts to discuss the opportunities and challenges surrounding the future deployment of green hydrogen technologies.

Organised and facilitated by LOMARTOV, alongside the project’s General Assembly, the interactive workshop provided a dedicated space to explore how different stakeholder groups perceive emerging hydrogen technologies and what factors may influence their future acceptance.

Through collaborative discussions and participatory exercises, attendees examined the expectations, concerns and priorities of key stakeholders across the hydrogen value chain. The workshop focused on identifying potential barriers and enablers related to technological adoption, market readiness, environmental performance, regulation, safety, infrastructure, public perception and economic viability.

Rather than focusing solely on technological performance, the discussions highlighted the importance of integrating societal perspectives from the earliest stages of research and innovation. Participants emphasised that understanding stakeholder needs can help developers anticipate challenges, strengthen public trust and design solutions that are better aligned with market and societal expectations.

The workshop also generated valuable insights into how responsible research and innovation approaches can support the successful deployment of green hydrogen technologies. Among the key conclusions were the need for transparent communication, stronger collaboration between industry, policymakers and citizens, and the importance of demonstrating tangible environmental and economic benefits alongside technical excellence.

As partner responsible for social sustainability, stakeholder engagement and communication activities within the project, LOMARTOV designed and moderated the workshop as part of its commitment to promoting responsible innovation and supporting the development of technologies that respond not only to technical challenges but also to societal needs.

By fostering dialogue between experts from different disciplines and organisations, the workshop represented an important step in strengthening the social dimension of the hyPPER project and ensuring that stakeholder perspectives contribute to shaping future innovation pathways.
