METHAREN

Innovative bioMETHAne system integration boosting production while managing Renewable energies intermittENcy

METHAREN specifically aims to demonstrate a cost-effective, innovative, more sustainable and circular biomethane production system enabling renewable energy sources (RES) intermittency management. Its fully integrated process is retrofittable to existing biogas plants and allows to significantly enhance biomethane production through extracting value out of two main effluents of the plant and green H2. The project will demonstrate the costeffectiveness and sustainability of the whole production chain from feedstock to injection of methane into the grid.

Gathering 17 partners from 7 countries, METHAREN aims to demonstrate a cost-effective, innovative, more sustainable and circular biomethane production system enabling renewable energy sources intermittency management. To do so, METHAREN is providing improvements beyond the state-of-the art along four main axes related to:

  • the biogas plant efficiency;
  • flexibility and energy management for RES integration;
  • the circularity approach for sustainable production and
  • innovative business models and adapted policies.
