After four years of collaborative research, the Horizon Europe SCENARIOS project officially reached its conclusion with its Final Meeting, held on 29 April 2026 in Brussels. The event brought together researchers, industry representatives, policymakers and project partners to present the project’s main achievements and discuss how its outcomes can support future action on one of today’s most pressing environmental and public health challenges: per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Throughout the day, consortium members showcased the integrated solutions developed within SCENARIOS to improve the detection, monitoring, assessment and remediation of PFAS contamination. The discussions highlighted the project’s multidisciplinary One Health approach, which combines environmental science, toxicology, engineering, digital tools and sustainability assessment to better understand PFAS impacts across ecosystems and human health while supporting evidence-based policymaking.

As a project partner, LOMARTOV contributed to the event through the presentation delivered by Jan Klenner, who shared the work carried out on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the project’s first Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA). These assessments provide valuable insights into the environmental performance and economic feasibility of the technologies developed within SCENARIOS, helping identify the most sustainable pathways for their future implementation and supporting informed decision-making for both industry and policymakers.

The Final Meeting also served as an opportunity to reflect on the project’s broader legacy. Beyond the technological advances achieved, SCENARIOS has generated new knowledge, methodologies and decision-support tools that will continue contributing to the understanding and management of PFAS contamination across Europe. While the project has officially concluded, many of its datasets, scientific publications and technical outputs will continue to support future research, innovation and environmental policy development.
