On 16–17 June 2026, the BATSS consortium gathered in Valencia for its M30 General Assembly, hosted by LOMARTOV. The meeting brought together partners from across Europe to review the project’s latest technical achievements, coordinate the final stages of development, and prepare the validation of BATSS’s innovative battery system for transport and mobile applications.
Over two days, consortium members assessed progress across the project’s technical and strategic activities, including battery system integration, validation testing, thermal management, mechanical design, safe-by-design approaches, circularity, standardisation, exploitation and communication. The discussions confirmed that BATSS is entering its final implementation phase with significant advances towards delivering a safer, more efficient and more sustainable battery solution.

One of the meeting’s main highlights was the progress made on the project’s final demonstrators. Partners reviewed the integration of key battery components, ongoing testing activities and modelling work designed to optimise system performance, safety and reliability ahead of the final validation phase.
Beyond the technological developments, the General Assembly also reinforced BATSS’s commitment to sustainability. Discussions covered second-life strategies, recycling and disassembly procedures, life cycle and cost assessments, as well as approaches to improving resource efficiency throughout the battery value chain.
As leader of the project’s communication, dissemination and exploitation activities, LOMARTOV also coordinated dedicated sessions on project outreach, exploitation planning and standardisation. Partners reviewed communication achievements, upcoming publications, open-access resources and preparations for the BATSS Final Workshop, which will take place in San Sebastián on 27 October 2026. The consortium also advanced its ongoing work with CEN-CENELEC on developing a reference electric power profile for non-road electric vehicles.
Hosting the General Assembly provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen collaboration among partners, align priorities for the project’s final months and continue supporting the development of innovative battery technologies that combine high performance, safety and sustainability.
Funded by the Horizon Europe programme, BATSS aims to develop next-generation battery systems capable of meeting the growing demands of electrified transport while promoting circularity, safety and industrial competitiveness across Europe.
